I associate this tune with winter because I was in Seattle and it was snowing at the time when I wrote it for Riley, the dog pictured here, in December of 2021. I was at my friend Jennifer's house, and he was sleeping next to me while I was at the piano. I kind of improvised it start to finish as if I was playing him off to sleep singing "lullaby for Riley..." and recorded on my phone just in case it was good.

Fast forward a couple months and I brought it to Sam Priven and his wonderful band for a session we had planned and polished up an arrangement for quintet. I'm very happy with how it sounds, and really excited to be able to share it with you here!
